Mr. Sketchy Likes a Short Poem by M. Crnjanski
Sketch of mister sketchy nicknamed the philosopher. A person who meets difficulties and complex matters with calmness and composure.
If you ask me in which language I like poetry the best, of course, I can not answer you like a butler does. Apart from my own language there are so many languages okay, nice, beautifully articulated, and if they are insanely strange, even then when sensitively translated into English you can feel a different vibe, here is an example. What I read? Its about an old man being honest what he feels facing his dying days.
Say, if my smile would fade,
If it melted like a flower
half dream and half ice,
Once more if
I could love …
Would it feel good wherever,
and life, would it be less mad?
Or would I then as much as now
have to smile and fall sick,
and die?
Milos Crnjanski (1893-1977) was a Serbian writer and poet of the expressionist wing of Serbian modernism.
Statement of the translator moderator Milica Marjannovic
“I am translating poems with the intention of reviving them, not making them contemporary, still preserving what is precious to the human soul: The poetic word. “
